Quote

"Knowing God without knowing our own wretchedness makes for pride. Knowing our own wretchedness without knowing God makes for despair. Knowing Jesus Christ strikes the balance, because he shows us both God and our own wretchedness."

Blaise Pascal, Pensees

This is a photo of the work team with Madeline (the homeowner)... we are standing in front of her home.

New Orleans or bust - Part 1

We left Ada today about 4:30 pm (and I wasn't one bit stressed! haha)

The first pit stop was in Paris, Texas where we ate chicken. Then we stopped in Clarksville to pick up Emily. Then we stopped about an hour after eating for a potty break and of course everyone got ice cream etc because we stopped for the potty break at a Dairy Queen... hmmm....

We made it to Shreveport about 11 pm and let me just say THE CHURCH WHERE WE ARE STAYING TONIGHT IS FREAKING AWESOME. I will definitely be taking some pics and posting them. Their were about half a dozen people waiting for us with snacks... they had matresses set up for us... and a card (personalized) on the mattresses along with a bookmark and a devotional booklet from the Upper Room (especially for the hurricane victims I think.)

The folks from the church are also going to be here at 7 am in the morning to cook us breakfast.

Oh and get this - they have provided towels for us to take showers so we don't have to mess with our wet towels when we head out to New Orleans about 9 am in the morning.

That's all for this update. But let me also say that Thomas did a great job preaching this morning at First Presby Church.

Peace out,
Scott

a little prayer for today, and maybe tomorrow too!!!

I have read some of Sky's writing in a couple of different places on the internet... and now I read his blog. This is one of his latest entries (an oldie but a goodie):

May those who love us, love us;
and those who don't love us,
may God turn their hearts;
and if He doesn't turn their hearts,
may he turn their ankles
so we'll know them by their limping.

quotes from "Stand By Me"

Gordie: Do you think I'm weird?
Chris: Definitely.
Gordie: No man, seriously. Am I weird?
Chris: Yeah, but so what? Everybody's weird.

---

Vern Tessio: If I could only have one food for the rest of my life? That's easy. Pez. Cherry flavor Pez. There's no doubt about it.

---

Gordie: Wagon Train's a really cool show, but have you ever noticed they don't really get anywhere? They just keep on wagon-training.

---

Teddy: Did your mother have any kids that lived?
Vern: What do you mean?

---

Vern: Geez, Gordie, why couldn't you have gotten breakfast stuff like twinkies, Pez and root beer?
Gordie: Sorry, Vern. I guess a more experienced shopper could have gotten more for your seven cents.
