Today's blog is being brought to you by the letter "A" which is for ass....
...or donkeys like Eeyore:
"People come and go in this Forest, and they say, 'It's only Eeyore, so it doesn't count.' They walk to and fro saying 'Ha Ha!'. But do they know anything about A? They don't. It's just three sticks to them. But to the Educated - mark this, little Piglet - to the Educated, not meaning Poohs and Piglets, it's a great and glorious A."

the road less taken
I am on a journey to discover what true Christianity is.... but even though I can't define it too well yet, I am taking a sidetrip down the road of discovering how you can evaluate your own spiritual life... so the question for today is Can You Measure Spiritual Growth?

snakes in ada
Last night I was reminded of what one of my professors said in seminary. It was during my first semester at Asbury*. Dr. Seamands was the dean of the chapel that year, and during one chapel he said that you never knew what was going to happen in chapel. Students would often ask in the hallways, "Who is speaking today?" or "Do you think chapel will be good today?"
Seamands believed you should go to worship because it was the right thing to do and God is always there... and you can't predict whether you will "like it or not" or "get anything out of it."
Last night I went to a local church that has two Saturday evening services. The band that normally plays wasn't there, so I got to worship with Doug Matlock and his band. I really like their style. I was really glad I went. At 6:50 I could never have predicted it.
We just can't put God in a box.
And we have to be open to what God is doing at all times or we miss out.
That's all.
*This weekend is the 40th anniversary of Star Trek, which I didn't start watching until I went to seminary. The Next Generation was a huge deal among the seminary nerds on the second floor of Grice dorm

I talked with someone today about worship, praise music, and hymns which got me to thinking about stuff.
Here's a song I came across which I have never heard. It was written in 1843.
I lay my sins on Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God;
He bears them all, and frees us from the accursèd load;
I bring my guilt to Jesus, to wash my crimson stains
White in His blood most precious, till not a stain remains.
I lay my wants on Jesus; all fullness dwells in Him;
He heals all my diseases, He doth my soul redeem:
I lay my griefs on Jesus, my burdens and my cares;
He from them all releases, He all my sorrows shares.
I rest my soul on Jesus, this weary soul of mine;
His right hand me embraces, I on His breast recline.
I love the Name of Jesus, Immanuel, Christ, the Lord;
Like fragrance on the breezes His Name abroad is poured.
I long to be like Jesus, strong, loving, lowly, mild;
I long to be like Jesus, the Father’s holy Child:
I long to be with Jesus, amid the heavenly throng,
To sing with saints His praises, to learn the angels’ song.

I have climbed highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you
I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
I have kissed honey lips
Felt my healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire
I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
I believe in the kingdom come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
Well, yes I'm still running
You broke the bonds
And you loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believed it
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

two little known facts about me
I have been to the OKC memorial many times, but never to the museum.
I am voting for Oklahoma's quarter design.
